BODY ODOR
Occasionally the perspiration of a person will have a strong odor. The condition is called "bromidrosis." Such people should bathe every day or twice daily using a good soap, preferably one without an offensive odor of its own.
Under the arms, under the breasts and in other places where perspiration may be excessive, preparations may be applied that prevent excessive perspiration. These usually contain salts of aluminum. The stopping of the perspiration in small areas is not harmful. Afterward a powder may be put on the skin.
Excessive perspiration of the feet has been related by some investigations to the wearing of woolen stockings, and such persons do better with stockings of another textile. The regular bathing of the feet with suitable solutions of an astringent character will limit the amount of perspiration of the feet. Another new investigation has definitely related offensive odors under the arms to the presence of bacteria which get into the fatty material of the perspiration and increase the odor. In severe cases, mild applications of X-ray are helpful.
